AIR AND GAS EXCHANGERS
Air and gas heat exchangers are the names given to heat exchangers that contain finned pipes (finned pipes, serpentine pipes) that maximize heat transfer and can have different designs in terms of geometry. They are generally high-efficiency heat exchangers designed for applications such as waste heat recovery systems, drying air heating, hot oil air heating, process gas heating or cooling, engine combustion air cooling, burner combustion air heating.
Air and gas exchangers can be grouped as follows:
- Air Heater and Air Cooler Exchangers
- Steam Radiators (Steam Air Heating Exchangers)
- Boiler Combustion Air Heating Exchangers
- Hot Oil Air Heating Exchangers
- Engine and Generator Air Coolers
- Compressed Gas Coolers
- Air Cooled Heat Exchangers
Exchangers kathat function as air/gas coolers or heaters, commonly known as finned tube heat exchangers, have a wide range of usage in industry. When heating or cooling the air, process gases, water, steam or hot oil are generally used as the primary fluid. When making a design in this field, it is very critical to analyze the characteristic and thermodynamic properties of the fluids very well and make the optimum design in terms of system performance. Depending on the characteristics of the fluid and process, they can be manufactured from straight pipes, elliptical or round cross-section finned pipes
The widest usage points are process hot air and hot gas heating or cooling applications, industrial drying and textile machinery air heaters, oil and water coolers, air handling unit air heaters and turbo charge coolers.
Thanks to the optimally expanded heat transfer area by using finned pipes, the heat flow feature from the primary to the secondary is increased. Considering the fluids and other operating conditions, it is possible to use carbon steel (hot dip galvanization or electro galvanization is possible to prevent oxidation), stainless (AISI304/L, AISI316/L/Ti, duplex, super duplex, etc.), copper or copper alloy coils.
Serpentines used in heat exchangers and coils are generally divided into three main groups: spiral finned coils, rubbing coils and washer coils.
- Spiral Fined Serpentines:
- Spot welded serpentines
A wide range of material selections are available. Although its usage areas are quite wide due to its practical structure and easy accessibility, it is applied taking into account the limit values since its temperature and pressure resistance are relatively low.
- Continuously Welded serpentines
The fact that the serpentine section has more contact surface with the pipe body provides higher heat transfer and mechanical strength compared to spot welded coils. Due to this feature, it is one of the frequently used coil types. Although it has a variety of sub-production products such as G-fin, B-fin and L-fin, optimum selections are made by our design team according to the point of use and fluid properties.
- Scrub (Self Winged) serpentines:
- Double-pipe rubbing coils
The outer tube is made of soft metal such as aluminum and copper, which has a high heat transfer value but is relatively easy to process. Since the fins are seamless and continuous, their heat transfer ability and strength values are quite high.
- Crocheted (Grooved) serpentines
Crocodile serpentines have a structure in which the fluid passing through them is forced into vortex flow and at the same time the heat transfer surface is increased, thanks to the spiral grooves opened on the pipe body. Grooved coils also have a much higher mechanical strength than straight pipes because their body is seamless and compound-free.
- Stamping serpentines:
Washer stacking serpentines are a type of serpentine with very high heat transfer values, created by combining rectangular, circular or elliptical washers to the serpentine pipe using special welding methods. When galvanized coating is applied to flake stacking coils, which can be manufactured using different material combinations depending on the application, problems such as corrosion and oxidation are prevented in the long term.
