Recuperator

Recuperators are heat recovery systems that provide heat transfer from gas to gas. In other words, equipment that enables the transfer of heat energy from hot waste gas to a colder gas, usually air, is called a recuperator. 

As in other types of heat exchangers, the incoming and outgoing air flows in the recuperator are separated by a heat transfer surface. As long as the temperature values of the two air streams are different from each other, the heat energy of the hotter gas is transferred to the colder gas through the wall without mixing with each other. Thus, the heat energy in the hot and dirty gas is generally transferred to the cold and clean air.

With appropriate material selection and optimum engineering solutions, recuperators are both highly efficient and suitable for use at temperatures up to 1000 °C. Recuperators can be used in chemical and petrochemical plants, glass, ceramic, cement, melting furnaces, natural gas power plants and many industrial facilities. 

In order for the recuperator investment to provide a short payback period, it is necessary to find a point of need where the heat energy obtained can be used. In almost every industrial facility, there is a point where this energy can be used primarily. The hot air obtained can be easily utilized in points with high energy consumption, such as space heating with hot air, pre-heating of burner combustion air, pre-heating of product drying air in drying processes, and heating of air conditioning unit suction air, especially in today's world where energy costs have increased considerably. With such an application, recuperators generally offer a depreciation period of less than 1 year. In some applications, this period is reduced to only a few months
