Steam Separator

In steam applications, one of the main factors determining system efficiency is the dryness degree of the steam. Generally, when making steam installation calculations, the evaporation enthalpy of the steam corresponding to the relevant pressure is taken from the table, but the dryness degree of the steam is not taken into account. Enthalpy values in the steam tables are calculated for dry steam. For example, in a steam process containing 5% water particles, the dryness degree of the steam is 95% and the useful enthalpy value decreases at this rate. 

The water particles contained in the steam do not only affect the process efficiency. Since the relevant droplets are distributed homogeneously into the steam and travel at high speed with the steam, they cause serious damage in the short or long term due to the pitting effect on the armatures they hit. 

At points where the steam velocity decreases or condensate condenses, condensate accumulates at the bottom of the pipe. This accumulation is discharged with a steam trap, but droplets and other pollutants distributed homogeneously across the pipe section can only be collected and discharged with a steam separator. Steam separators are equipment that separates the liquid formed and carried in steam installations with centrifugal (vortex) force, filters it and discharges it to the condensate line through the steam trap, thus obtaining dry and clean steam. 

While the steam entering the separator travels in the separator cyclone, the droplets in it are dispersed on the separator walls by centrifugal effect and filtered downwards and discharged through the steam trap. The steam, which releases the wetness it contains at the maximum rate and reaches 99.9% dryness, continues on its way clean and with high thermal capacity. Thus, system efficiency is maximized and fixtures are protected from erosion and water hammer.
