Thickening systems are large-diameter cylindrical pools that allow partially cleaned water to be recycled into the process as a result of the large sedimentation of suspended solids in the process sludge and to greatly reduce the waste share of the facilities. Thanks to this function, it can also be considered as a pre-filtration component. While a large amount of process water is recovered with the thickener application, the waste amount of the facilities and the associated costs of treatment components are also significantly reduced.

The characteristic features of the material called slime, its flow rate, and the sedimentation rate of the solids it contains, the project and user requests are important factors that determine the diameter and height of the thickener.

The base of the thickener is generally conical in structure. The settled solid particles are collected in the center thanks to the special reducer-driven scraper blades placed in this conical structure, and the accumulated and concentrated mud is blown out from this point. It can be designed as self-flowing or pump-fed.
